The glow in our Meu Brilho Illuminating Body Oil doesn't come from mica — the shimmer ingredient in most cosmetics. Here's what we use instead, and why it matters.
The mica question
Mica is a natural mineral used widely for cosmetic shimmer. It works well, but mica supply chains have been linked to ethical concerns around mining practices. Plenty of brands use responsibly-sourced mica — we simply chose a different route to the same glow.
What we use
Meu Brilho's sheen comes from light-reflecting mineral pigments — calcium sodium borosilicate and titanium dioxide, with iron oxides and tin oxide for tone. Together they create a smooth, multidimensional shimmer that catches light beautifully, without relying on mica.
Why it looks different
These pigments give a finer, more reflective finish than chunky glitter — a lit-from-within sheen rather than visible sparkle. In Bronze the tone reads warm and golden; in Pearl it's a cool champagne. Either way the effect is skin that looks lit, not coated.
The rest of the formula
