Hyaluronic acid is one of those ingredients that earns its reputation. It’s not a trend. It’s not a buzzword. It’s a molecule that occurs naturally in your body — in your skin, your joints, your eyes — and it does one thing exceptionally well: hold water.

Here’s why it matters for your skin, and why you’ll find it in several of our Glow and Flow Health formulas.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a glycosaminoglycan — a naturally occurring polysaccharide found throughout the human body. In skin, it sits primarily in the dermis (the deeper layer) where it helps maintain moisture, elasticity and volume.

The reason it’s so effective in skincare is its extraordinary water-holding capacity: a single gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to 6 litres of water. Applied to skin, it draws moisture from the environment and from deeper skin layers into the surface, plumping and hydrating from within.

Hyaluronic Acid vs Sodium Hyaluronate

You’ll see both names on ingredient lists. Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid — it’s smaller in molecular size, which means it penetrates the skin more effectively. We use sodium hyaluronate in our formulas specifically because it delivers hydration deeper into the skin, rather than sitting on the surface.

What Does It Do For Skin?

  • Plumps and firms — replenishes the moisture that keeps skin looking full and smooth
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines — when skin is properly hydrated, surface lines become less visible
  • Improves skin texture — consistent use leaves skin feeling smoother and more even
  • Supports barrier function — well-hydrated skin is more resilient to environmental stressors
  • Soothes sensitivity — HA has anti-inflammatory properties that calm irritated skin

Is It Suitable for All Skin Types?

Yes — including oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin. It’s non-comedogenic (won’t block pores), lightweight and works for everyone from teens to mature skin. It’s one of the most universally well-tolerated skincare ingredients available.

Where You’ll Find It In Our Range

  • Flow State Face Mist — sodium hyaluronate in a mist that delivers hydration to skin in seconds
  • Soft Focus Skin Prep Spray — paired with rosehip oil and niacinamide for a plumping, smoothing prep base
  • Silk Layer Body Lotion — used in the lotion formula for lasting moisture that doesn’t feel heavy
  • Afterglow Body Mist — in the mist formula for hydration that refreshes and softens body skin on contact

The cumulative effect of consistent hyaluronic acid use is real: skin that genuinely looks and feels more hydrated, more plump and more even over time. It’s not magic — it’s just water-holding chemistry, done well.
